Our History

C.B.S. Messenger Service, Inc. (d/b/a Customs Brokers Supply) began in 1973 as a supplier of forms for the international trade industry. During the course of doing business, our founder and owner, Bill Powell, saw a great need for a way of transporting the many documents back and forth between customs house brokers and the U.S. Customs service.

He created an effective and efficient routing system for pickups and deliveries between customers in the suburbs and various locations in the city of Chicago. He then transformed his supply business into the C.B.S. Messenger Service of today.

With his wife, Gerri Powell, working beside him on Accounting and Administrative tasks, this company has developed and prospered through the years. Later, keeping the business in the family, Ted Porter, Gerri's brother, and his wife, Sandy, joined the company to help build it further.

Since its inception in 1973, C.B.S. has grown from a small operation to a full fledged delivery company with over 45 radio dispatched vehicles servicing the entire Chicagoland area as far South as Joliet, as far West as Rockford, and as far North as Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

We offer same day delivery of documents for a low price. Our customer base has grown beyond just the international trade industry to include such diverse industries as travel agencies, mortgage brokers and lenders, court reporters, attorneys, gift basket companies and florists.

C.B.S. Messenger Service drivers and staff provide professional, prompt, friendly service that keeps customers coming back. Many customers have remained loyal to the company for 25 years or more.

Today, C.B.S. remains a family owned and operated company with Bill and Gerri's children and family members still running the company. David Powell has taken over for Bill as President of the company and works alongside his sister, Amy Wojdak, who does Accounting and Customer Service; his uncle, Ted Porter, is Executive Vice President; and his aunt, Sandy Porter, is our Employee Benefits Manager. Along with their fleet of drivers and operations personnel, these family members continue to keep the company rolling along smoothly.
